Iwo town was agog on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 as Oba (Dr.) Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, delivered the 1st City People Culture Lecture at the prestigious BOWEN University in Iwo. The event was largely attended by community members, traditional rulers, and religious leaders from the Islamic and Christian bodies, and scholars.
The Iwo king displayed a vast and deep knowledge of Yoruba and his history and a high degree of supreme authority as received from God and also enlightened other Obas on the need to recognise the divinity of royal titles in relation to the community which such authority is discharged.
City People media team of JOSEPH SEUN EMMANUEL and DANIJI EMMANUEL bring you a comprehensive account of what went down at the event.
ABOUT IWO KINGDOM
The Iwo Kingdom is a traditional state located in the State of Osun. It is a Yoruba ancient kingdom in Yorubaland with the traditional ruler known as the Oluwo of Iwo
Iwo people migrated from Ile-Ife in the early 14th century and settled in the land known as Iwo today. The town has over 26 ancient and powerful kings and the land covers about 240km landscape with the population of over 300,000 people.
Iwo is ranked as the most populous Local Government in Osun by the 2006 Nigeria National Population Census.
The primary economic activity in the city is agriculture with primary food and cash crops being cocoa, yam, corn, cassava, palm oil and textiles.
The city has produced several notable figures and influential people in Nigeria, some of which include Prince Alade Lamuye, OON – Nigeria’s first minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He was also a junior minister of Finance and a former chairman of Sterling Bank Plc. Chief Adebayo Aremu, a foremost lawyer and the OtunbaOfIwoland, AlhKazeemAdemolaAdio, Olode’s Family of AlhMoshoodAdeoti, Alh. Fatai Akinbade, AdisaKabiru Adeniyi Kulukulu – a chartered Accountant, President General of Guidance Community Development Foundation, and Consultant Chief Abiola Ogundokun and the great Emperor Oba Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, IlufemiloyeTelu 1
OBA TELU’S NEW PALACE
The imperial palace of his royal majesty, Oba Dr Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi is a gigantic edifice that befits an emperor. The old palace sits side by side with the new palace built by the Olu-Iwo. The royal palace which is built in the heart of Iwo kingdom is sitting on several expanses of land, we are told, hosts hundreds of visitors every day.
No sooner had City People team got into the palace, the sight of the elders seated in the palace attests to the fact that his royal majesty accommodates the people.
THE EMPEROR LOVES GOD
It has been argued that royal fathers in this contemporary age do not identify themselves with the supremacy and divinity of God, due to the magnitude of power and control that is bestowed on them in their respective communities.
This is not the case with his imperial majesty Oba Dr Abdul RasheedAdewaleAkanbi, the IlufemiloyeTelu 1.
City People encountered an exceptionally religious emperor. His royal majesty on setting his eyes on the media team wholeheartedly offered a royal reception to the entire guests. He spent the first thirty minutes on imparting unprecedented divine blessings directly from the throne to all guests present and follow it with an assurance of actualization.
You will be surprised to know that the emperor is groomed in the knowledge of the Bible and the Quran.
He quoted verses from both books with practical references to prophets as a case study.
His Iwo accent which blends with his Arabic intonation will easily identify as a true choice of God to lead the ancient city of Iwo.
IWO PEOPLE LOVE THEIR EMPEROR
The consistence influx of Iwo people into the Palace of his royal majesty cannot be over-emphasized. It can only take an emperor who is unconditionally loved by his people to enjoy such consistent visit and homage from time to time.
After a careful observation of how people troop in and out, it was discovered that an average number of 5 visitors come into the palace at the interval of every 30 minutes.
More interesting is the fact that they also leave the palace happier than when they came.
We can safely commend that Telu 1 is the king of the people.
It will also shock you that the emperor does not only enjoy unreserved accolades within his empire but also wherever he goes.
By the time the emperor drove out of the palace towards BOWEN University, every passerby paid homage from young and old, men and women.
These people look happy to have him around as their leader. Emperor’s response to all applauds and greetings are also admirable as he ensures that everyone no matter how big or small has a feel of his presence. He is indeed one of a kind.
EMPEROR’S GRAND ENTRY INTO THE LECTURE HALL
There is no other word to describe the ovation and accolades that greeted the entry of Oba Dr Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, IlufemiloyeTelu 1 into the hall than the word Epic.
