El-Amin international school is a primary and secondary, private co-educational boarding school founded by the late first lady of Nigeria, Maryam Babangida. The school is now being directed by her son, Aminu.
El-Amin is one of Nigeria’s best schools and it located in both Minna, Niger State and Maitama in Abuja.
Since the inception in 1993 of the primary school and then the secondary in 1995, the school has been patronised by the Nigerians who can afford their fees. These parents are rewarded with great education for their children. City People Assistant Editor, Funmilayo Ishola takes a look at some of these prominent Nigerians who have sent their children to El-Amin:
Former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo’s daughter, Aisha is an alumna of the school. A stalwart of Peoples Democratic Party in Sapele, Delta State, Mr. Esimaje Besidone, has a daughter Edema, who attended the school. Hon. Ibrahim Ebbo is a former member of the House of Representatives representing Agaie/ Lapai federal constituency of Niger State. Alhaji Gimba Usman is from the Masaba Family of the Bida Emirate council. His son, Mustapha attended the school. Senator Mohammed D. Alkali a former Senator for the Jigawa North West constituency of Jigawa State, in the Nigerian Fourth Republic ran on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform. Binta and Abubakar Alkali went to El-Amin. Nigerian dignitary, Frank Chukkas, is one of the parents who sent his children there. Architect Ibrahim Bunu was Minister of the Federal Capital territory (FCT), Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, holding office from May 1999 until February 2001 in the cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo. Hafsie Bunu attended El-Amin. Austin Atakpu is a former Special Adviser to the Edo-state Governor on Taxation and Revenue. Mansur Mamman, born into the family of elder statesman Mamman Daura, went to this school.
Senator Isa Galaudu is currently the Chief of Staff to the Senate President Bukola Saraki; Labiba Galaudu is an ex-student. NNPC’s Group General Manager Crude Oil Marketing Department (COMD), Godwin Jedy-Agba, sent his son, Maurice-Dennis there. Chiedu Ndukwe was born into the family of former Nigerian Communications Commissions CEO, Ernest Ndukwe, OON.Sani Ndanusa is the former Minister of Youths, Sports and Social Development, Abdulkarim Ndanusa is an ex-student of El-Amin. Top finance executive and chairman of Premium Pension Limited, Mr. Aliyu Dikko, is one of the parents who sent their children to the school. The Shinkafis are a notable family in Northern Nigeria; Hafsatu Shinkafi is an old student. The Special Adviser to the Niger State governor on Disaster Management Agency, Alhaji Mohammed Shaba is one of those who sent his son, Ibrahim Mohammed Shaba, to El-Amin.
Mohammed Monguno is a retired Nigerian Army Major General and current National Security Adviser appointed on July 13, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari. Dr Salihu Dasuki Nakande may likely be the youngest PhD holder in northern Nigeria. Born in Kaduna on October 12, 1987 into the family of Ibrahim Dasuki Salihu Nakande, a former Minister of Information and Communications.
Professor Ahmed Ahidjo is a Consultant Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Tahir is a member of the family and went to the school. The Minister of State for Solid Minerals, Honourable Abubakar Bawa Bwari sent his son, Mustapha, there. The son of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai’s son, Hamza, is an ex-student. Political stalwart, Bamanga Tukur, has children who attended the school too. The Iluobe family in Nigeria is known to be illustrious.; one of their own, Odi Iluobe is an old student. Some members of the popular Indimi family from Borno, also attended El-Amin school; Tijjani and Hauwa Indimi are ex-students.
Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Abba Gana, sent at least 2 of his children to the school; among them are Farouk and Abubakar. Maryam Bafarawa was born into the family of the former governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Dalhatu Bafarawa. The children of Akinfemiwa Akinruntan the Managing Director of Obat Oil and Petroleum Limited, Dolapo and his siblings are El-Amin alumni. Farouk and Khadija Illo are from the prominent Illo family on Kebbi state.
Mohammed Dantata, an alumnus of the school, is from the wealthy Dantata family.
The Galadima family are well known in Northern Nigeria and one of their own, Aminu Galadima went to the school.
