Olajumoke Ademowo is a big player in the Real Estate sector.

She is an Architect who has done well for herself. She is a role model to so many young people coming behind her. And even her elders always look at her with envy. She has built herself into a big brand.

Her early career moves saw her working with popular architectural firms that were founded by seasoned professionals in the field. She worked with Towry Coker and Associates (TCA) which was founded by Architect Lanre Towry Coker (PhD) and she also worked with Femi Majekodunmi Associates (FMA) which was founded by Architect Femi Majekodunmi. It was while at FMA that she designed the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja at just the age of 23.

No doubt working for these frontline firms in Architecture definitely exposed the then young Adenowo to the world of architecture that she was able to learn the ropes of the game within a short time and this led to the starting of her own firm.

At the age of 26 in 1994, Adenowo founded her own firm, AD CONSULTING, an architecture and interior design firm, which has been involved in the design and construction of over 70 projects for the Nigerian Government and various corporate and financial institutions.

AD’s clients include the world’s strongest brands like Coca-Cola and L’Oreal. AD Consulting’s track record includes nine banks including prototypes in Victoria Island, Lagos mainland, Kaduna, Port Harcourt and other parts of Nigeria. Healthcare facilities in the South – South region of the country, Industrial buildings in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and other parts of Nigeria ranging from pharmaceutical to the oil service sector, residential developments and interior renovations.

According to her, she said that “Although I have designed and executed over 70 buildings, I would like to, in the near future, design an iconic building that becomes the symbol of Nigeria, the same way the Eiffel Tower is the symbol of Paris/France. I also want to be the vanguard that champions architecture on the African continent, led by African architects, as well as bring global attention that will afford Africa the platform to contribute value to the field of architecture internationally. Honestly, 16 percent of the world or 1.2 billion people can’t be voiceless on an important discourse like architecture neither can they allow others to define them.”

Her past most notable design jobs includes but is not limited to The Citadel, Victoria Island, Town Houses on Club road, Rain oil Head Office, Protea Hotel, Lagos International Arbitration Centre, Victoria Island, a residential house on Temple Road, House of Tara, Residential Homes in VGC, Guiding Light Assembly church, GTBank Bodija, GTBank at Tinubu, GTBank at Toyin Street (Ikeja), Residential House on Chevy view Estate, Town houses on Gerard Road, Ekiti State Liaison Office, Atrium and Café and a high rise residence at Alexander Road, Ikoyi.

She has been able to create a style in Nigeria (which existed before) and brand herself with that style. And she gets tons of work from referral because people recognize her work and go after her. According to her she says that’s the biggest compliment you can get as an architect, people recognizing your work and wanting the same.

AD Consulting has received several awards for design excellence and it is currently Nigeria’s most internationally awarded and decorated firm. She mentors and develops young architectural talents through AD’s internship schemes. Adenowo also ran an oil and gas firm, Advantage Energy, and also runs a property management firm, Advantage Energy.

She has appeared on several media platforms such as CNN and some other local media explaining how she is skilled at designing buildings with contemporary Nigerian traditional architecture and modern international architecture. It was CNN that gave her the name “STARCHITECT” during one of her appearances for the broadcasting company, ever since then the word has been used to refer to her.

As one Africa’s leading architects, Nigeria’s Olajumoke Adenowo, is regarded as one of the women in Africa that is blazing a trail in mostly male-dominated fields especially in the built sector, which is a no go area for most women. Her works are a point of reference for young architects especially the female architects who are mainly into the design of female-friendly utilities such as boutiques, spas, salons and so on. Olajumoke Adenowo has won so many awards and accolades that she proffers so many reasons why every parent should encourage  their daughters to become architects  – because a career in architecture, is not a man’s world. Olajumoke Adenowo has broken the mould and shattered that perception.

Born in October 16, 1968, in Oyo State, Olajumoke Olufunmilola Adenowo is a Nigerian architect, speaker and radio host, philanthropist and author.

Adenowo was admitted into the University to study Architecture at the tender age of 14 at the Obafemi Awolowo University. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Architecture and won the coveted faculty prize in 1988. She subsequently obtained a distinction in her Master of Science Architecture degree [an all A Average] in the history of the University. This feat made her a whiz kid in Architecture that she made headlines both at ‘home and overseas.

In 1991, Adenowo was featured in “Who will be who in the 21st century” (young achievers section) by the International Biographical Centre Cambridge, England and “Those who Inspire Nigeria.
