- Why The Installation Was Stopped
Few weeks ago, the people of Ibogun, Ifo area of Ogun State were agog in celebration of their new Balogun as he was supposed to be installed on the 12th of May 2016 at the Ibogun Community Hall, Egbeda Ifo before the installation was stopped two days before the event. Premier Paint Boss, Chief Ogooluwa Bankole was supposed to be installed as the new Balogun Gbogbogbo of Ibogun land. Chief Bankole and his family have already rapped up plans to celebrate the title and had also chosen a colour of the day which was yellow for friends and close associates.
The title was reportedly conferred on him by the joint authorities of the five kings in Ibogunland and the 34 community Baales. Ibogun Community is made up of 34 township of Egba extractions located in present Ifo local government area in Ogun State and there seem to be no problem when the decision was made and invitations sent out to other rulers in the state and also the Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu who surprisingly raised an eyebrow to the impending installation.
According to a dependable source , former President Olusegun Obasanjo also got a notification and invitation on the new installation of the Balogun of Ibogunland which was also is maternal home -town and he was said to have given his blessings to Chief Ogooluwa Bankole, emerging the new Balogun.
Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, the Olowu of Owu in a letter to all Owu Kings and Baales and the Ogun State Governor , Senator Ibikunle Amosun and the Commissioner for local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Chief Judge Ojuko, stated that, traditionally they have the title of Balogun over 3 major township , which are Erunmu, Apomu and Owu main town . The history and tradition do not admit of any other city town or village of Owu to install a Balogun Gbogbogbo.
In view of this, no Owu King, Baale or a combine group of Obas and Baales in any part of Owu kingdom notably Owu Ibogun villages is approved to create an unknown chieftancy of Balogun Gbogbogbo.
Information reaching the Palace also confirms that the proposed instalation of Chief Bankole will cause a breach of peace. Consequently , the proposed award is ordered cancelled by the order of the Paramount Ruler of Owu kingdom, his cabinet and the council of Owu chiefs. Since the circulation of the letter, there have been closed door meetings in other to ensure the installation takes place, all to no avail.
According to a source, the issue of the cancelled installation was said to have been instigated by another Ibogun son, High Chief, Doja Adewolu who is also very influential in Ibogun and also a strong man in Governor Amosun’s cabinet apart from being his uncle. The issue is yet to be resolved although former President Olusegun Obasanjo has given Chief Bankole his blessings to go ahead with the installation, the paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo is also reported to be interested in the issue. Chief Ogooluwa Bankole has however been silent on the issue. A source told this magazine that Chief Bankole wants the elders of Ibogunland to resolve the matter.
